| Our winemaking goals are to produce wines that are true to the variety and the source, show balance and complexity, and be enjoyable upon release. The core essence of our wines is ripe fruit, as expressed from the vineyard. This single-minded focus shows a record of consistent, superior quality wines. Morgan's resources are allocated to top-notch growers, the finest French oak barrels, and modern equipment in the cellar. Traditional winemaking techniques, combined with modern cellar equipment, allow Morgan Winery to produce complex wines with integrity to the grape and the terroir. We like to think that accurate wines such as these are graceful accompaniments to special and everyday meals. Wine quality is mostly determined in the vineyard. This was the leading concept when Dan and Donna Lee – the original owners of Morgan Winery – began to look for their own vineyard property. With the purchase of 65 acres in the prestigious Santa Lucia Highlands appellation they satisfied their desire for a location that could deliver truly exquisite wine. Located in the northern end of the Santa Lucia Highlands, the site selection was ideal for growing Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the cornerstones of Morgan Winery. Dan chose to farm the newly acquired property utilizing organic techniques. The Double L is the only certified organic vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands. Dan began by planting a variety of different clonal selections of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. One acre of Syrah was added to the mix in 2001. Soon, Morgan will introduce a bit of Riesling from the Double L.
